I worked for Constellation Energy at the time prototyping and training .NET rapid development technologies. After decades of quick development, I became quite good at rapidly prototyping applications - which was an extremely valuable skill for a trading floor developer.

I would prototype things, and other people would "bring them to market". During AnAppADay I always had a common library where I would put common functionality and base classes to make later days more rapid.

I did not learn these methodologies anywhere - they evolved within me through working in an agile business. I would transform a trader idea into a prototype in a day, and chances are it'd be thrown out. If not, it'd be assigned a capital project number, funded, and shifted off my plate.

My only advice is to write a LOT of apps VERY quickly and you'll pickup this skill no problem. I've been coding for 22 years now - mostly with this RAD approach.

All right. So, an open mind.

    > people should not assume their own semiotic perspective in others

If you are already aware of this notion, then there is not much else that I can contribute. You already know that the words / structure used in the exchange that you are pointing out, would seem rude and demanding in certain context, but that may not be the intention of the person using them.

To me it seems like the person *is* actually *requesting* for help, but his style and words that he puts together (*want*, *send*, *need*, *do*) are easily interpreted as rude demands in the Western context. He does use *please* (plz) a lot.

All this is not to say that there aren't douchebags with a misplaced sense of entitlement in any culture. We are only talking about cases of misunderstanding due to language / cultural *misalignments*.

    Quote:

So, let’s review. Palin’s autobiography was written by Lynn Vincent who is a proud ‘c’hristian Dominionist, and believes (as does Sarah) that people and dinosaurs coexisted when the world began a brief 4-6,000 years ago; and Vincent is proud enough of her friendship with her former college pal Robert Stacey McCain – a known white supremacist, professed evangelical, anti-”Yankee”, and self-acknowledged psychotic – to have co-authored a book with him well before Palin’s project.

What a group of seriously demented people! And when you consider all this – and the fact that there are enough followers of these whackos who ALSO consider themselves the true ‘c’hristians and patriots of America, to have caused Palin’s autobiography to sky-rocket to number one on the bestsellers list a month and a half before it is even available - they cannot be ignored!

I cannot stress enough how serious this is.

I can sell it. We will make it a Paypal thing. The acct expires in January.

There are two chars. Both have +5 implants, all learning skills, basic EWAR skills, one has intermediate mining skills. There are also a lot of ships in the hangar. Battleship, freighter, several frigates, loads of shuttles, a Jovian shuttle too, a cruiser, battlecruiser.... And there are a lot of modules for the ships as well. But most modules are for frigate-class. You are also setup to use lvl2 agents, and the chars are already hooked up with a research agent.

Reason why I have two chars? I made two accts :P Yeah, this really was an impulsive buy. I transferred the chars onto one acct.

Let me know if you are interested.

If you're using multithreading to take advantage of multiple cores, that implies:

    - You're doing something CPU bound.

    - You're too slow

    - It's not a share-nothing situation best suited for processes (eg webserver style operation)

Python's not a great fit for high performance, so by the time you're butting against this problem, you'd probably be considering a C extension *anyway*, in which case you can avoid the GIL that way.

This is why the GIL is generally less of a problem in practice - the situations where you'll run into it aren't the most common usecases for the language.

Such things are only "dead" so long as people are unwilling to turn the tide by showing some originality. The trend definitely leans toward a lot of "sexy ____" but it's hardly the only option. Two years ago my best friend and his girlfriend went as a baseball team called the Missionaries. He was the pitcher and she was the catcher. They had their own uniforms made (cheaper than you think), he put on a Rollie Fingers mustache (having not had the time to grow one) and she wore a catcher's mask. They even made a logo, with a cross directly above the M, such that it looked like a stick figure spreading its legs. Huge hit and nicely subverting the trope, making all the Sexy Blanks look like amateurs by comparison.

Set up up on prestressed concrete stilts, preferably with some type of polymer coat to help seal and reduce maintinence. Minimum 10 feet off the ground, with retractable staircase/ladder setup. You could go multi-level with the stairs between each level retractable. Make this a bit of a colony setup, multiple smaller dwellings on platforms that are interconnected, with walkways retractable from either side, minimum 20 foot clearance between each keeps people from being able to jump across. You could put wind generators and solar hot water on each and if done up correctly, also feed into a common supply grid. Each unit could be self sufficient and allow for "defense in depth" should an individual unit be overrun.

    >To me, In Rainbows feels like a rehash of Hail to the Thief in the same way that Amnesiac feels like a rehash of Kid A.

Dude, they sound *completely* different. One is an esoteric, odd-time signature laden art album (Hail to the Thief) while the other is a powerful pop/rock record, albeit one that only Radiohead could make.

    >In fact, I'd agrue that OK Computer is just as experimental but in different ways (Fitter Happier, and the general compositional structure of Paranoid Android, for example).

No way man. Airbag, Paranoid Android, Karma Police, Let Down, No Surprises and more would all have fit comfortably on The Bends. They were pop songs. Fucking amazing pop songs, but every one of those was catchy and interesting. Kid A was also interesting and somewhat catchy, but it wasn't a pop album the same way. "Yesterday I woke up sucking on lemon" is hardly "Airbag" for an opener.

When a bunch of peopel stand there and cheer when their country loses at soemthing you could say that they hate that country.

Now consider how much the Republicans have gone out of their way to insult and disrespect the leader of the country they are supposed to represent.

You want to know what's wrong with America? Your ignorance and all the other people like you.

The Demoracts aren't close to perfect but at least they're not as petty, blantantly corrupt or plain idiotic as the Republicans.

My son is pretty severely autistic... he's almost eight and has almost no understanding of language. I had to quit work to care for him before he was two years old. I had no idea what was happening to him when he slowly lost his language and started waking up screaming in the middle of the night EVERY SINGLE NIGHT. If I had known what would happen, you're damn straight I would not have had him. I've lost about 1/2 million in income and can't work full time even though he is in school. I've dabbled in making soap and candles and selling them at the farmer's market, was a google rater for 11 months until the job drove me batshit crazy, and do taxes. Next I'll try to make some money online.. You always feel that you need to make lots of money for future care, but you can't work traditional jobs AND working at home when he is around is impossible.

I worry about what will happen when he hits puberty. He is not violent or out of control now. (Well, he did almost set the house on fire by putting stuffed animals on a halogen lamp two weeks ago..) I have read "Boy Alone", which is written by a man whose brother is severely autistic. His parents were relatively well-off, but still could not prevent their child from being sexually and physically abused by caretakers BEFORE they had to put him in an institution. That is what I worry about. Derailing my life for a couple of decades isn't nearly as awful as the feeling you've given birth to someone whose destiny is to be horribly abused in some institutional setting.

So the answer would be no.

Ok assclown, stay in your fantasy world of kow-towing to the presidential abuse of authority and refusing to read the law.

The truth is that home was the site of a police investigation and that homeowner interfered with the investigation. I know reddit is not big on the truth or the law.. just whatever the Obama man says is ok. So keep on fucking that chicken.

That man met all the requirements for disorderly conduct except for the unwritten part of the law that says the law only applies to men that aren't friends with a public official who holds sway over the court. The argument that it only applies to "in public" went out the window when the house became the scene of a criminal complaint.

    1. Shitty vicious, brutal world (including the 'civilized' part). No part of me is a predator, and it seems that sort of competive ruthlessness is a key to happiness and satisfaction around here. and the 'justice' system is a joke. a bad one.

    2. Shitty me. I don't really care much what kids are up to. So likely I'd get into heaps of trouble with the law for negligence if my kids stuck a fork in an electrical socket or something similar. the world is far too punitive for me along those lines.

    3. I don't think the national/world economic picture is pointing towards a bright future (for a LONG time, if ever). Massive debt, social 'security' pyramid scheme, underfunded pensions...Somebody has to pay that bill. Why give birth to what will probably be a non predator (like me) who is intelligent and also not a parasite. they'd just get stuck with the bill and the blame, by the aforementioned miscreants.

    4. I'm not all that satisfied with being born. Why force that on someone else?

    5. overpopulation of course. not to mention the 'class' of people who are reproducing, IMO, predominantly predators, parasites and the clueless.

    6. 50% of females of childbearing age have no kids (2000 US census). In places like Boston (intellectual town), it's even higher. in the 70's that figure was 10%. Im pretty sure what's happening now in our government is trying to get geared up for the eventual demographic collapse to having no talented sheeple.

    8. bad things happening to loved ones, reeks havoc on me as well.

    7. After all the experiences i've had in life, I prefer being alone.

Staying in my friends 18th Century house one night. I was in bed and the door opened, and a figure with long dark hair walked across the room. I assumed it was my friend (he has long dark hair) who was sharing the room so I close my eyes again. But I never heard anymore noise, and I looked down at him and he was fast asleep. Thing was, he was sleeping in a sleeping bag on top one of those blow up beds so I should have heard rustling from the bag and some squeaking from the bed moving.

Also I lived in Kitslano in Vancouver one summer. One housemate saw a dark figure standing over my bed one night (joked the next day I was sharing my bed with another housemate). I heard bowls hitting of the sink and cupboards opening in the kitchen and upon investigation no one was there. Other housemate heard the front door opening, a person move through the main room and into the second bedroom and jumping onto a bed. They got up to say hi to whoever had returned home, again there was no on there. Electrical items getting plugged in, cans flying out of cupboards, all the good stuff.

twisted again. The size an location of the picture has no bearing on this story. ( If it was a story about Lenin obsession that would be different ). But in this case we have a story about a politically charged situation involving a man who disagrees with his government. Lenin was a prominent 20th century political figure who was also a revolutionary. The mere fact that this guy had a picture of Lenin, no matter the number shape or size, shows that it is quite possible he is influenced by him. The mention of Lenin, whether you agree with the situation or not, is quite relevant.

Since the USA is still, I believe, a democracy. Vote! Vote for the candidates that are sincere and advocate against corporatism and fiat currency, if there is no such one, stand as one.

As an alternative to capitalism: there is nothing wrong with socialism, but truth is you can actually make socialism in capitalism and reform it bottom-up without changing any laws if the laws are liberal enough beforehand, which I am not quite sure of for the USA. Anyway, it is possible and it was and is being executed, exempli gratia Israeli kibbutzim, but I recently heard of a village in Spain working similarly as well. Sure these are quite small groups of people, but in theory there is nothing preventing you from doing so state-wide.

Whilst I am disgusted with terror in all forms I think the amount of terror exported by the Israeli terror machine is orders, orders of magnitude greater than anything Hamas has done. But well done, you failed the terrorist test – you believe your terror is justified and the other parties isn’t. It a classic schoolboy error and your guilty as charged. You are nothing more than a terrorist sympathiser.

You want people to spend time criticising someone who has 'a spec of saw dust in the eye' over someone who has a fucking great big plank of wood in theirs?

I also have a particular revulsion to the Israeli terrorism as my family had a (small) part in the creation of the state of Israel. As a British citizen I also feel bad as we enabled the state of Israel to be declared.

Well, there's recent history, where the term recent is relative to governments, and then there's recent history, where the term recent is relative to ideological systems which haven't changed all that much.

But a more pertinent resoponse is: has any conflict Israel has started recently been one in which an atomic bomb could potentially be used? And in Iran's case, does any war they could undertake hold the potential for the use of an atomic bomb?

Ultimately, the only war I foresee in that region that would lead to the use of those bombs are between Iran and Israel, unless the old Arab League dusts off its tanks and jets and gives it another go, which to me seems unlikely.

    > Also, it's hard to tell now whether or not Israel was attacking or defending itself.

What war are you referring to here? The war of 1948? Or the recent war in Gaza?
